My thoughts on my new laptop

You know that feeling when your current laptop finally decides it’s done playing nice? That was me a few days ago. Enter the ThinkPad T470—a laptop I managed to acquire at lightning speed, and let me tell you, this thing is built. Like, “I could probably hurt myself if I dropped it on my foot” built.

First impressions? It’s solid in every way a laptop should be. There’s something about the industrial design of these machines that screams, “You could throw me at a wall, and I’d still boot faster than your $500 plastic special from PB Tech.” And honestly? Probably true.

The keyboard is a dream—no cheap, flexy nonsense here. It’s the kind of keyboard that feels like it was designed for a blogger, a coder, or someone determined to win an online debate at 2 a.m (eventually I will come to senses with the fact that the function and control keys have switched positions compared to the HP keyboard though). The trackpad is a no-frills workhorse, but the little red TrackPoint nub? Iconic. And weirdly satisfying to use.

Under the hood, it’s nothing groundbreaking by today’s standards—7th-gen i5, 16GB of RAM, and a mediocre 128GB SSD. But compared to a lot of modern laptops in this price range, it’s got one thing going for it: reliability. It’s not flashy, and it doesn’t have a touchscreen that folds 360° to impress people at Starbucks. It’s just dependable, like everyone's favourite mention in my blog posts.

The best part? It didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Sure, I could’ve gone for something newer and shinier, but why? Enterprise-grade laptops like this are built to last. They were made for people who need a machine that’ll survive endless business trips, questionable airport security checks, and years of neglect at the bottom of a backpack.

So far, it’s been handling everything I throw at it without so much as a hiccup. Writing this post? No problem. Running Doom? It’s ready (but what can't play Doom at this point...) Simultaneously running six Chrome tabs and Microsoft Excel? Like a champ.

This thing reminds me why I love enterprise-grade hardware—it’s the ultimate combination of durability and value. In a world where laptops are treated like disposable tech, the ThinkPad T470 feels like a quiet rebellion. It’s here for the long haul, and with this laptop, so am I.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go write something reflective and vaguely cryptic on this tank of a machine. Maybe about her. Or about how laptops are the caracals of the tech world: sleek, unpredictable, and occasionally in your face if you’re not careful.

73, Daniel.
